Two things I would do to change the world

By Swaraaj Bhattacharya
Today I am going to talk about “Two things I think need to be changed in today’s world”.

If you look around more and more computers and internet is being used these days. Because of internet we don’t need to write letters on paper any more, don’t need to print documents on paper and no need to use paper textbooks. All this can be accomplished online.

So my first point is to change this world into a paperless society. Why would I need to do this? This is required because paper comes from trees and fuel is used in production of paper. Since we are cutting down more and more trees and using immense amount of fuel this is leading to global warming. Hence the lesser the paper we use, the lesser the trees we will cut down and lesser amount of fuel we will use, this will eventually help us in saving the Earth.

My second point about the change I would like to make is to provide children with healthy meals at schools. If they continue to eat junk food on a regular basis they will grow up to have diseases like diabetes and heart problems. This will also make them obese at a very young age. I would like to make such changes that there is no junk food available on the racks for the students to buy at school. The options for lunch at school should be salads, milk, healthy sandwiches, fruit, yogurt, carrots, celery sticks etc… Hence it they have healthy choices they will grow up to be healthy and smart individuals.

I am now going to conclude by summarizing my speech. Two things I would like to change in today’s world ….firstly by reducing use of paper in everyday life which will help in reducing global warming. Secondly will make changes in student’s lunch menu by providing healthy options. This would lead to students eating healthier food and thus growing to be healthy individuals. I hope this will make a difference in today’s world.

Two Things that I would do to Change the World

What is the main cause of most Natural Disasters? Weather. Weather causes Hurricanes, Tsunamis, Floods, Droughts, Avalanches, Landslides and others that cause human to suffer disease and death. Meteorologists have gotten good at predicting weather but not controlling it. If I could change anything in the world it would be its destructive weather patterns.

I would make a machine that would change the path of clouds like bringing saturated clouds to deserts, prevent ocean currents from forming hurricanes and alter temperatures to melt blizzards. Such an invention will not only save lives but billions of dollars as well. This money can be used for other better usage that can help the poor and needy.

I realize that changing weather is a massive effort and seems unrealistic. However, if all the smart children like us put our minds to it, we can do anything.

The world is faced with a serious problem. We can lose many endangered species of fauna and flora if we do not take actions. So I would like to give new ideas that would save these species. Every 15 minutes an animal becomes extinct. If we don’t stop this we could break the circle of life. Even man’s existence would be in danger. I would to bring big changes to the way that we can attack this problem.

We should concentrate on finding an alternate planet where living things can survive. On this new planet we should create a habitat for endangered species to keep them safe. Another plan is to make a Nature Link where endangered species can live. A Nature Link is lot of different Nature Reserves connected to each other. They help preserve the population of these species. If you think my ideas are far fetched – Wait till I am 21!

Something that I would like to Change

“Cough, Cough!” He was just a little boy, Kemal, working at the age of 6 to pay off the debt accrued by his parents. “Work faster harder! What? Can’t take a little cough? Weave the carpet!” Kemal would always cry when he thought of his dreams to become a doctor.

"One out of every six children in the world is involved in child labor." If I could change anything in the world, I would like to make it possible for every child to have a fighting chance to realize their dreams.
As required reading in my Language Arts class, we read the book Iqbal. The novel showed the life of children forced to work at a school-going age. After some research, I came to know that 244 million children around the world share the same fate. These statistics have grounded me about a lot of things I take for granted in life. At the same time it strengthens my resolve that I as the more privileged people in the world we need to take the first step to eradicate child labor and its evils.
Let’s admit that life is not fair for adults and children, however making a child work stands out because you are stifling his options to lead a life of his choice. For example, a child stuck working in a factory for eighteen hours a day can never hope to hold a job even as commonplace as a teacher. He only has one road to take and one skill to leverage upon.

Research has shown that growing children need at least nine hours of sleep to reach their physical and mental potential. Child laborers in the absence of adequate food and rest will grow up with a host of bodily disabilities, both physical and psychological. This further limits their options to improve their condition as adults.
What can be done to stop this? Governments all around the world have to get creative. Parents put their own kids to work because they are in need of money. Unless we make it economically attractive to them they will continue create money-making machines of these little hands. I propose that if poor families are to keep their children in school, governments will have to provide them with monetary incentive like cash rewards, housing, meals etc. This will break the vicious cycle of parents in poverty raising poor and unlawful future adults. Keeping school-going children away from paid labor and in school is the only way to realize society’s dream of healthy and productive individuals.
